PREDETERMINED FACTORS FOR CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE- heredity, gender, increasing age
FACTORS INFLUENCED BY LIFESTYLE MODIFICATION- cigarette smoking, high blood pressure
DRUGS USED TO TREAT ANGINA- beta blockers, most generic names end in "lol"
BETA BLOCKERS- ending sufix is "lol"
sotalol(Betapace)- beta blockers indicated for treatment of arrhythmias
NITRATES AND ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION DRUGS- Technicians- watch for patients who get prescription for nirates (should not use with nirates) and ED drugs
NITRATES AND ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION DRUGS 2- sidenafil (Viagra,Revatio)- can be used to reduce blood pressure
NITROGLYCERIN- drug of choice for ACUTE ATTACK of angina, TAKEN SUBLINGUALLY, 3 DOSES is the MAXIMUM AMOUNT DURING ACUTE ATTACK
DISPENSING ISSUES OF NITROGLYCERIN- stored and sold in original amber glass bottle. refill every 3 months
TERMS TO REMEMBER- Bradycardia- when the heart beats too slow
TERMS TO REMEMBER 2 Labetalol- is classified PREGNANCY CATEGORY C
ARRHYTHMIA- any variation from the normal heart rhythm
DRUG LIST- antiarhythmic agent
DRUG LIST 2- lidocaine(Xylocaine)- also used as an anesthetic
DRUG LIST 3- moricizine(Ethmozine)- also used first line therapy for mild arrhythmia
phenytoin(Dilantin)- used on RESISTANT ARRHYTHMIAS, also ANTICONVULSANT AGENT
DRUG LIST 4- amiodarone(Cordrone)- used for atrial and ventricular arrhythmias that do not respond to other medication
digoxin(Lanoxicaps,Lanoxin)- most important drug in managing atrial flutter, fibrillation, and CHF
digoxin immune Fab- antidote for digitalis toxicity
TERM TO REMEMBER- Arrhythmia- any variation from the normal heartbeat
TERM TO REMEMBER 2- Pril- suffix for Ace Inhibitor
TERM TO REMEMBER 3- Sartan- suffix for Angiotensin II
TERM TO REMEMBER 4- Receptors
Congestive Heart Failure(CHF)- When the pumping ability of the heart can no longer meet the metabolic needs of the body's tissues
Congestive Heart Failure(CHF)2- Overworking of the heart leads to Cardiomegaly (enlarged heart)
Congestive Heart Failure(CHF)3- Mycocardial hypertrophy-heart muscle thickens in response to overstimulation
Diuretics They increase urine output. Are first line treatment for HTN. Are prescribed for edema
(Primacor)- is used for short term "IV THERAPY" of CHF and Calcium Channel Blocker(CCB) intoxication
Side effects of Ace inhibitors- Zestril- dry, nonproductive cough
BLOOD PRESSURE systolic blood pressure (top number)- pressure when the heart ejects blood 120/80
Doxazosin (cardura)- used to reduce vasoconstriction, hypertension and for prostatic disease
(Revatio,Viagra)- do not use with nitrates
Dispensing Issues of sidenafil(Revatio, Viagra)- Two different names for sidenafil. Be sure patient is not on both drug forms, or on both Revatio and Levitra or Cialis
HDL and LDL- HDL?- "GOOD" cholestrol. carry 20-30% of the total serum cholestrol.
HDL and LDL 2- LDL?- "BAD" cholestrol. carry 60-70% of the total serum cholestrol.
