What happens in radioactive decay? Unstable particles give of other particles and energy
What is Alpha decay? When a particle gives of helium, which has a mass number of 4. It has the least penetrating ability, has the most mass, but is the dangerest
What is the mass number of a particle? The sum of protons and neutrons in a nucleas
What is a beta molecule and what are it's properties? When a unstable nucleas loses electrons. It has the 2nd most penetrating ability and the least dangerest
What is the process of nuclear fission? It starts by a neutron stricking the unstable element dividing it into two different elements with all new properties, then the loose neutrons of thoseatoms start a chain reaction.
What are the pros and cons of nuclear fission? Pros: Cleaner, more independant and cheaper fuel Cons: Dangereous, expensive, waste
What is a gamma particle? Pure energy given of by movement in the element. Most penetrating ability, 2nd dangerest
What is nuclear fusion The joining of two helium atoms to make hydrogen
What are the pros and cons of nuclear fusion? Pros: Cleanest, most common and natural fuel with no waste Cons: The process is too hot for earth and costs more than the result
