Chapter 17 Key Term

The terms within the physical science book on chapter 17

WordDefinition
Atomic Mass The number in an atom that is the same as the number of protons plus the neutrons in the nucleus.
Atomic number The number of protons in the nucleus.
Atomic nucleaus The core of the atom
Atomic symbol. An abbrv of the element
electron a negatively charged particle.
element Any material that is made up of one type of atom.
group A vertical column in the periodic table.
isotope. Atoms who have the same number of nucluei that have the same number of protons but different number neutrons.
mass number. Amount of mass in the element
metal An element.
metalloid One of six elements.
neutron a neutral charged particle
nonmetal An element that is not metal.
nucleon A nuclear of neutron and proton.
period Horizontal row in the periodic table.
periodic table All of the elements listed on a table.
periodic trend tendencies of certain elemental characteristics to increase or decrease along a row or column
