| observation | the use of your senses to notice your environment |
| bias | An unfair opinion or influence in favor of or against someone or something |
| conclusion | a statement that tells the outcome of an investigation; the data has been interpreted and studied in relation to a hypothesis |
| control | the part of the experiment in which conditions are kept constan |
| dependent variable | in a controlled experiment, the measurable condition that results from changing the independent variable |
| hypothesis | an idea not proven but assumed to be true for purposes of further study or investigation |
| qualitative | to describe the properties of something without using numbers (color, shape, smell, taste, texture, opinion) |
| quantitative | capable of being measured or expressed as a numerical amount |
| scientific notation | uses the powers of ten to express very large or very small numbers as decimal numbers |
| theory | An explanation of a scientific idea that has been tested and accepted. |
| variable | A factor that can affect the outcome of an experiment |
