Antiparkinsonian Drugs

QuestionAnswer
Akinesia a reduction or absence of motor activity that results in masklike facial expression and impaired postural reflexes. Classic parkinsonian symptom.
Bradykinesia slowness of movement, another classic symptom.
Chorea a condition characterized by involuntary purposless, rapid mvmnts. Like grimacing, finger flexion, shoulder ticks, etc.
Dyskinesia impaired ability to execute voluntary movements.
Affective Disorders emotional disorders that are characterized by changes in mood.
Dystonia disorder of muscle tone causes impaired movement
Selegiline a selective MAO-B inhibitor which is indicated for Parkinson's disease. It is used as an adjunctive drug along with levodopa to reduce the dosage of levodopa needed for symptom control.
