QuestionAnswer
what is momentum? the product of an object's mass and its velocity
what is the formula for momentum? m=pv
what is law of conservation of momentum? the total momentum of any grup of objects remains the same unless outside objects act on the object
what is force? a push or pull that gives energy to an object
what are units of force measured in? forces are measure in newtons or N
what is net force? the total of all forces acting on an object
what is inertia? the tendancy of matter to resist a change in its motion
what are balanced forces? the net force acting on an object is 0
what are on-balanced forces? the net force acting on the object does not equal 0
what is magnitude? the amount of a measurement
what friction? a frce that one sruface exerts on another when the two surfaces are in contact with eachother
what is static fritction? friction between non-moving objects
what is kinetic friction? friction between moving objects
what is sliding friction? friction between to objects that slide or rub agianst eachother
what is rolling friction? occurs when a object rolls over a surface
what is fluid friction? ocurs when an object moves through a fluid or gas
what is newton's first motion of law? objects at rest will stay at rest and objects in moton will stay in motion at a constant velocity unless acted on by an unbalanced force
what is newton's second motion of law? the net force acting on an object is equal to the product's mass and acceleration
what is newton's third law of motion? for every action force there is a reaction force that is equal, but acts in the oppisite direction
what is law of universal gravitation? all objects in the universe are attracted to each other; strength of attraction depends on the obcts' masses and distance from eachother
what is freefall? the motion of an object when gravity is the only force acting on it
what is terminal velocity? greatest velocity of a falling object; ocurs when force of gravity is equal to the force of frition
what is weight? a measure of the force of gravity on an object
what is mass? the amount of matter in something
what is centripetal force? the force that is pulling an object in circular motion towards the center of the circle
what is geosynchronous orbit? occurs when an object orbits another objectat a rate equal to the 2nd object's rate of rotation

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
