Macrolides Inhibit protein synthesis by combining with ribosomes
Macrolides is Used primarily to treat pulmonary infections
Macrolides are azithromycin (Zithromax), clarithromycin (Biaxin), dirithromycin (Dynabac), erythromycin base (Ery-Tab), erythromycin ethylsuccinate (E.E.S., EryPed), erythromycin lactobionate (Erythrocin), erythromycin stearate (Erythrocin), & (Pediazole)

Therapeutic Uses of Macrolides are Chlamydia – Group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus, H. influenzae, Legionnaires’ disease, M. pneumoniae, & S. pneumoniae

Some forms of erythromycin can cause severe GI distress and should be taken with food
Erythromycin & azithromycin Can be misread
