Forces Unit

QuestionAnswerQuestionsAnswersQuestionsAnswers
Law of Conservation of Momentum the total momentum of any group of objects remain the same unless outside forces also act on the objects Magnitude the amount (size) of a measurement Newton's First Law of Motion Objects at rest will stay at rest and objects in motion will stay in motion at a constant velocity unless acted on by an unbalanced force
Force a push or a pull that gives energy to an object Friction a force that one surface exerts on another when the two surfaces are in contace with each other Newton's Second Law of Motion The net force acting on an object is equal to the product of the object's mass and acceleration
Units of Force forces are measured in Newtons;N Kinetic Friction friction between moving objects Newton's Third Law of Motion For every action force there is a reaction force that is equal, but acts in the oppisite direction
Net force the total of all forces avtion on an obect Sliding Friction friction between objects that slide (rub) agains each other Law of Universal Gravitation All objects in the universe are attracted to each other; strength of attraction depends on the objects' masses and distance form each other
Inertia the tendency of matter to resist a change in its motion Rolling Friction Occurs when and object rolls over a surface Freefall The motion of an object when GRAVITY is the only force action on it
Centripetal Force The Force that is pulling an object in circular motion towards the center of the circle
Geosynchronous Orbit Occure when an object orbits another object at a rate equal to the 2nd object's rate of motion
Momentum the product of an object's mass and its velocity Balanced force(S) the net force acting on an object is zero Terminal Velocity The greatest velocity of a falling object; occurs when the force GRAVITY is EQUAL to the force of FRICTION
Formula fot momentum M = pv Un balab=nced force(S) the net force acting on an object is not zero Weight A measure of the force of GRAVITY on an object
Static Friction friction between non-moving objects Fluid Friction Occurs when an object moves through fluid or a gas Mass The amount of matter in something

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
