Food,Drug,&Cosmetic Act of 1938 all food and drug products must prove safe for human consumption.
Poison Prevention Packaging Act of 1970 requires most otc and legend drugs to have childproof caps.
Durham Humphrey act of 1952 established a distinction between otc and prescription meds. "Caution:Federal law prohibits dispensing without script."
Pure food &Drug Act of 1906 prohibits transportation or sale of adulterated and misbranded food or drugs.
Kefauver-Harris Amendment of 1963 requires all meds on the market in the US to be pure,safe, and effective.
Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA-90) requires pharmacists to offer patient counseling to every patient/new script. Requires manufacturer to provide the lowest price o any customer or medicaid patient.
Health insurance portability and accountability Act of 1996(HIPAA) protects patient privacy. requires every pharmacy to provide hippa training. deals with patients rights to continuing health insurance,even when changing employers.
