generalized anxiety disorder(ad) excessive, persistent,and unrealistic worrying about everyday things
obsessive-compulsive disorder(ad) characterized by the individual continuously:having unwanted thoughts(obsessions), repeating certain behaviors(compulsions) over and over
post-traumatic stess disorder(ad) disorder in which the victim of a traumatic event experiences the orginal event in the form of dreams and/or flashbacks
somatoform disorders psychological difficulties that take on a physical form
hypochondriasis(sd) disorder where one in good health becomes preoccupied w/imaginary ailments
conversion disorder(sd) disorder where emotional difficulties take on a physical form (function loss)
dissociative disorders alterations in memory, identity, perception, or conciousness
dissociative identity disorder(multiple personality)(dd) person experiences 2 or more personality states, each with its own patterns of thought and behavior
dissociative amnesia(dd) memory loss that has no biological explanation (caused by traumatic event)
dissociative fugue(dd) amnesia coupled with active flight to a different environment
depresonalization(dd) marked by periods of feeling disconnected from one's body and thoughts
mood disorders disturbance in emotional feelings strong enough to effect every day living
major depression(md) abnormal lowered mood characterized by: feelings of worthlessness, despair, and disinterest in activities(not brought on by bereavment)
mania(md) abnormal elated mood characterized by: feelings of euphoria, a lack of inhibitions, risk-taking, irrability, and a lack of a need for sleep
bipolar disorder(md) excessive and innapropriate highs(mania) and lows(depression)
schizophrenia a class of disorders in which severe distortion of reality occurs
paranoid (s) characterized delusions including grandeur or persecution
catatonic(s) characterized by long periods of motionlessness
disorganized(s) characterized by incoherent language and disorganized motor function
undifferentiated (s) characterized by a combination of 2 or more schizophrenia types
personality disorders characterized by a set of inflexible maladaptive personality traits that prevent an individual from functioning properly in society
antisocial personailty disorder characterized by a persistent disregard for others
borderline personality disorder impulsivity and instability in mood, self-image, and relationships
narcissistic personality disorder exaggerated sense of self and lack of concern for others
histrionic personality disorder excessive emotions and need for attention
dependent personality disorder extreme submissiveness and excessive need to be taken care of
