Islam A monotheistic religion based on the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
Mecca The holiest city in Islam where they go and preform the duty of hajj.
OPEC An organization established by a group of oil-producing nations that coordinate policies on selling petroleum products; Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
Zionism A movement made to create and support a Jewish homeland in Palestine.
Western Wall The holiest sitefor Jews in Jerusalem that is a portion of the Second Temple. It is the only remaining peice of the Second Temple, which was destroyed in A.D. 70 by the Romans.
Theocracy When religious leaders control the government.
Muhammad The founder of Islam.
Kurds An ethnic group in Southwestern Asia that died from the chemical weapons attack.
Dome of the Rock The spot where Muslims believe the Prophet Muhammad rose into heaven.
PLO Palestine Liberation Organization, formed to regain the land for Palestinian Arabs.
