FOSS 8 Electronics Charge Capacitor
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 01) | Connect the capacitor to a battery |
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 02) | The battery pushes positive charges through the lead wire to plate 1 |
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 03) | Plate 1 becomes positively charged |
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 04) | The positive charges on plate 1 create a positive "field" in the space around plate 1 |
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 05) | The positive field (in the insulating space) repels the positive charges in plate 2 and pushes them out of plate 2 |
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 06) | Plate 2 becomes negatively charged |
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 07) | The push of charges between the battery, plate 1, and plate 2 = a brief flow of current |
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 08) | Plate 1 keeps on taking positive charge until it reaches the voltage of the battery (about 9 v in our class) |
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 09) | Current stops flowing when the charge of the capacitor is around 9 v |
| How To: Charge a Capacitor (Step 10) | The capacitor holds the charge until a different pathway is provided for the current to flow out of it |
