PERSONALITY AND SOCIAL INTERACTION

expectancy confirmation | phenomenon whereby people's beliefs about personality char of others cause them to evoke in others actions consistent with initial beliefs. AKA self-fulfilling prophesy/behavioral confirmation |
manipulation | defined as various means which people intentionally/purposefully alter,change, and exploit others. Entails altering environments already inhabited. No evil/malicious intent need to be implied by term "manipulation", although such intent is not excluded. |
taxonomy | ID/naming of groups within particular subject field. Technical name given to classification scheme |
Machiavellian | tendency to use other people as tools for personal gain. "High Mach" tend to tell people what they want to hear, use flattery, rely heavily on lying to achieve own ends. |
narcissism | style of inflated self-admiration, constant attempt to draw attention to self and keep others focused on self. Can be extreme, but tendencies are found in normal range levels. |
