Infection The growth of germs in your body
Organelle A specialized structure in a cell
Chloroplast Organelle that contains the green pigment chlorophyll uses in photosynthesis

Types Of Germs Bacteria & Viruses (Rods, Spheres, Spirals)
Ways to Reduce Spread Of Germs Washing Hands, Cutting Meats and Veggies on Different Cutting Boards, Sneezing into Arm or On Tissue, Avoid Touching Face
How Do Germs Relate To Food Handling Cutting Meats and Veggies on Different Cutting Boards, Storing Food in Cold Places Because Bacteria Reproduces Quickly in Warm Places
Cell Theory All living things are composed of cells, Cells are the basic units of structure and function in living things, and All cells are produced from other cells
Parts- Differences Between Plant and Animal Cells Animal & Plant- Nucleus, Cytoplasm, Cell Membrane, Mitochondria, Vacuole, Chromosomes Plant- Chloroplast, Cell Wall
Dependent/Responding Variable The event studied and expected to change when the independent variable is changed
Independent/Manipulated Variable A variable that is intentionally changed to observe its effect on the dependent variable
Similarities/Differences Between Viruses and Bacteria Similarities-Both are microscopic, Both can cause sickness in other organisms Differences- Viruses reproduce by putting their DNA into the cells of a host, Bacteria reproduce by splitting in half and making two new bacteria
Viruses (Characteristics) Characteristics- Need a Host to Survive, Many Different Types, Some Only Affect Plants, Some Animals, Some Bacteria
Viruses (Reproduction) Can Only Reproduce inside Cells, Each Virus has a Different way to Reproduce
Viruses (Spread) Same way Bacteria are Spread, Droplet Transmission- Sneezing, Coughing, Talking, etc., Contact with Open Sores
Eradicated Diseases Smallpox, Polio
Common Cold Symptoms- Discomfort (Not as much as Flu), Cause other diseases Causes Of- Rhinovirus, Spread by Droplet Spread
Polio Symptoms- Minor to severe muscle weakness, and paralysis Causes Of- Poliomyelitis, Spread by feces, hand to mouth
Smallpox Symptoms- Small itchy spots, High fever, Death Causes Of- Variola Virus, Spread by saliva droplet spread or direct contact with sores

Pneumonia (Bacterial) Symptoms- Inflammation of the lungs, Air sacs in lungs filled with pus, Death, Bad coughs, Chills, Chest pain, Sputum Caused by- Bacteria working their way into your lungs when your body defenses are lowered
Pneumonia (Viral) Symptoms- Fever, Dry Cough, Headache, Muscle pains, Weakness, Increasing breathlessness, Bluish lips Caused by- Viruses invading lungs and multiplying, Almost no physical sign of lung tissue filling with fluid
