QuestionAnswer
Wave any disturbance that transmits energy through mater or space
Medium a substance in which a wave can travel
How energy transfers through a medium When a particle vibrates it makes the next one vibrate and it moves on like a wave
How do sound waves work it vibrates the next particle in the air then that one does the same and the particles do that in a wave form
Hoe do ocean waves transfer energy they transfer energy through particles in an object
Electromagnetic Waves waves that do not require a medium
Five things that use electromagnetic waves T.V., Radio, X rays, Microwaves, Visible Light
How waves can be classified based on direction in which the particles of the medium vibrate
How do transverse waves move A wave in which the particles vibrate in an up and down motion
How do Longitude waves move the particles of the medium vibrate back and forth along the path that the wave travels
Amplitude the maximum distance the wave vibrates from its rest point
Wavelength the distance between any two adjacent crests or compressions in a series of waves
Frequency The number of waves produced in a given amount of time
Wave speed the speed at which a wave travels
Wave speed formula v=Axf
Reflection occurs when a wave bounces back after striking a barrier
Refraction the bending of a wave as it passes at an angle from one medium to another
Diffraction the bending of waves around a barrier or through an opening
Interference the result of two or more waves overlapping

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
