Industrial/ organizational (I/o) psychology is the stud of organizational design, decision making personal selection, training and evaluation, work related stress, work motivation, and performance
Work motivation can be thought of as the conditions and processes that account for the arousal direction magnitude and maintenance of effort in a person’s jobs
Two the most effective way ti increase employee motivation are Reinforcement Goal setting
Reinforcement involves rewarding employee when they engage in behavior that advance or reinforce the organization mission
Goal setting occurs when clear, attainable objectives are clearly communicated to employees, and steps are taken to achieves these objectives
An organization can enhance employees’ commitment to goals by Having the participated in the goal setting Making goal specific attractive difficult and attainable Providing feedback on performance Rewarding the employees for attaining the goals
Industrial-Organization psychologist use 1. Questionnaries 2. Interviews 3. Personality 4. Personality testing 5. Management feedback
Questionnaires allow I-O psychologist to measure constructs such as job satisfaction extroversion conscientiousness.
Interview provide insight into what people perceive as the the problem in an organization
Personality testing gives an employer an opportunity to high difference or similarities between employees or screen potential candidates for employment
Management feedback is use to encourage managers and employee to communicate effectively
