Physical Properties

| conductivity | The degree to which a mineral or matter allows electricity to pass through it. Solids, liguids and gases can all be conductors of electircity |
| density | a unique identifying property; Ratio of mass to volume |
| element | substance with atoms that are all alike |
| hardness | The ability of matter to resist scratching (Moh's Hardness Scale) |
| luster | describes how a mineral sample (or matter) riflects light. Is it metallic or nonmetallic? |
| mass | amount of matter in a substance |
| molecule | a neutral particle that forms as a result of sharing electrons |
| odor | describes whether a mineral has a specific smell |
| matter | anything that has mass and volume |
| mixture | a material made up of two or more substances that can be easily separated by physical means |
| physical properties | any characteristic (property) that can be observed without changing the chemical composition (identity)of the material |
| volume | amount of space occupied by an object |
