| Active Ingredient | The chemical found in the medication known or believed to have a therapeutic effect |
| Admixture | A substance produced by mixing two or more substances |
| Aerosol | A medication dosage form that contains a gaseous substance consisting of fine liquid or solid particles |
| Capsule | A solid dosage form of a medication usually made of gelatin, which holds fine particles of a solid or liquid particle |
| Chewable tablet | Tablets that are chewed instead of swallowed whole |
| Compound | A substance made from a combination of two or more substances |
| Cream | A dosage form of a medication that is a semisolid preparation, usually applied externally to soothe, lubricate or protect |
| Effervescent Tablet | A tablet that is dissolved into liquid before administration |
| Elixir | A liquid dosage form that contains flavored water and alcohol |
| Emulsion | A liquid dosage form of a mixture of two products that normally do not mix together |
| Inactive Ingredient | Are the remaining ingredients other than the active ingredients that are found in a drug; used to flavor, digest, color, and bind the whole substance |
| Liniment | Are medications that are applied to the skin with friction and running. Liniments can be solutions, suspensions, or emulsions |
| Lotion | A liquid dosage form that contains a powdered substance in a suspension, used externally to soothe, cool, dry and protect |
| Ointment | A semisolid (mixture of a liquid and a solid) dosage form that is applied externally to deliver medication, lubricate and protect |
| Patch | A dosage form in which the medication is delivered through a solid application applied to the skin and absorbed into the bloodstream |
| Solution | A liquid dosage form in which the medication is completely dissolved in a liquid |
| Suppository | Denotes the administration through the vagina or rectum of a solid medication |
| Suspension | Is a liquid dosage form in which the solid particles are not completely dissolved |
| Syrup | A liquid dosage form that consists of water and sugar mixed with the medication |
| Tablet | A solid dosage form in which the ingredients are compacted into a small, formed shapes |
