| independent variable | a manipulated (changed) variable in an experiment |
| investigation | a detailed inquiry or systematic examination |
| mean | the average value of a set of numbers |
| median | a middle point, plane, or part |
| mode | the number or range of numbers in a set that occurs the most frequently |
| observation | detailed examination of phenomena prior to analysis, diagnosis, or interpretation |
| outlier | a value far from most others in a set of data |
| physical science | any of the sciences that analyze the nature and properties of energy and nonliving manner |
| replication | a copy or reproduction |
| scientist | a person having expert knowledge of one or more sciences, especially a natural or physical science |
| table | an orderly arrangement of data |
| electromagnetic force | the fundamental force associated with electric and magnetic fields |
| force | the use of physical power or violence to compel or restrain; a push or pull |
| magnetic force | a force that exists between two electrically charged moving particles |
