pt.2 atomic

models of atoms

QuestionAnswer
neils bohr 1913 said electrons move in a path around the nucleus (like planets orbiting the sun)
electrons has a specific energy depending on its path
electrons can only be in certain energy levels.
what must gain or lose energy to go to the next level electrons
bohrs model still accurate and the actual path is random
electrons with different energies exist on different levels
number of levels in a atom depends on the number of electrons
electrons moves in orbitals within their energy level
electrons path is dictated by their orbitals
what is an orbital region in the atom outside the nucleus where the electron is most likely found
their are 4 kinds of orbitals s, d, p, f
s- spherical shaped orbital(sharp)
p- dumbbell shaped orbital(principal)
d- very complexed orbital(diffuse)
f- very complex orbital (fundamental)
every atom has a Valence electron found in the outside of the neutron
Electrons are most likely found in the outside of the neutrons
periodic table groups similar elements together
properties of an element can be predicted based on its location
1st arrangement of elements was by mendeleev
mendeleev element order was by their atomic mass
the table was refined by moseley
mosely elements order was by number of protons in the nucleus (only a few changed)
which elements mosely changed Ar, K, Co, Ni, Te, I
Elements in the same group have the same number of valence electrons

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
