QuestionAnswer
What is volume? A measure of how much space an object takes up.
What is the metric unit of volume? Litters
What is a cubic centimeter equal to? 1 gram
What is mass? A measure of how much matter is in an object.
All matter is made of what? Atoms
What are atoms made of? Proton, Neutrons and Electrons.
Does the mass of an object ever change? No.
What is mass measured in? Grams.
1 gram is about the size of what? A dime.
What are the 3 possible states of motion? No motion, constant velocity, and acceleration.
What can forces do? Keep objects at their state of motion, or change an objects state of motion.
What is force? A push or a pull.
What is the English unit of force conversion factor to metric units? 4.5 N= 1 lb
All solids act like what? Spring.
1 kg equals what? 2.2 lbs
2.2 lbs equals what? 1 kg
What is friction? A force caused by surfaces sliding over each other or trying to slide over each other.
Friction depends on what? The 2 types of surfaces and the amount of force squeezing the two surfaces together.
What are the 3 types of friction? Sliding friction, rolling friction and fluid friction.
What are the 2 types of sliding friction? Static friction and kinetic friction.
What is static friction? The friction between stationary objects in contact.
What is kinetic friction? The friction between sliding objects in motion.
What are balanced forces? Forces that are equal in size but opposite in direction.
What are balanced forces present in? No motion and constant velocity.
What are unbalanced forces? Forces that are not balanced.
Objects that are acceleration have what acting on them? Unbalanced forces.
What is a force diagram? A diagram showing the forces acting on an object, and the direction of those forces.
What is a net force? The sum of the forces on an object.
