Antipeptic agent Drug/Drug Interaction If aluminum salts are combined w/sucralfate, there is a risk of high aluminum levels and aluminum toxicity. Wait 2 hrs bt drugs
Prostaglandin is used to protect the linning in the stomach in situations that might lead to serous GI complications
misoprostol Cytotec
misoprostol (Cytotec) is used to prevent NSAID induced gastric ulcers in pt who are at high risk for complications from a gastric ulcer
Prostaglandin work to increase gastric acid secretions and increase bicarbonate and mucous produciton in the stomach, thus protecting the linning
Prostaglandin found to be effective treatment for ulcers in pt who... dont respond to H2 antagonists.
Prostaglandin contraindictions in pregnancy. It is an abortifacient. Women of child bearing age should be advised to have a negative preg test w/in 2 wks of treatment
Prostaglandin adverse effects GI effects: nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence, vomiting. Genitourinary effects: miscarriages, excessive bleeding, menstrual disorders
Digestive enzymes help pt who have suffered a stroke, salivary gland disorders, or extreme surgery of the head or neck or cystic fibrosis or pancreatic dysfunction
saliva substitute MouthKote, Salivart
saliva substitute (MouthKote, Salivart) help in conditions of dry mouth, stroke, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, other illness
pancreatin Creon Capsules
pancreatin (Creon Capsules) is used to aid the digestion and absorption of fats, proteins, and carbs
pancrelipase Cotozym, IIozyme
pancrelipase (Cotozym, IIozyme) is used like pancreatin in conditions that lack pancrelipase
Digestive enzymes Contraindications caution w/pt w/CHF. Pancreatic enzymes should not be used w/known alergy to pork products
Digestive enzymes Adverse effects complications from abnormal electrolyte absorption, such as increased levels of magnesium, sodium, or potassium. Most offten occur w/pancreatic enzymes are related to GI irritation and nausea, cramps, and diarrhea
