Definitions of terms

ALSA Definitions

QuestionAnswer
Course indoors or out, mandatories included for each class
Loose Lead The handler has his/her hand on the lead rope in a position which permits the lead rope to form a "J' from the llama's head to the handler's hand
Tight lead The lead rope is persistently stretched tight from the handler's hand to the animal's head and is not the result of giving necessary direction on a particular obstacle
Short Lead The handler's hand is close to the animal's head, resulting in restriction of movement of the animal's head and neck
Refusal Animal refuses to budge, not respond to more forward, steps to side of obstacle or steps back from obstacle. Should not be confused with incomplete.
Rapport Animal-human trust.
Smooth Flow smooth negotiation and transition through obstacle
Safety Hazard When animal or handler does something that can potentially create a hazardous situation for animal or handler
