| Homogeneous Mixture | A combination of substances in which the appearance and properties are the same through out |
| Heterogeneous Mixture | A combination of substances in which different compounds are easily observed |
| Concentration | The measure of the amount of solute dissolved in a solvent |
| Solubility | The amount of solute needed to make a solution using a given amount of a solvent at a certain temperature |
| Dilute | Less than a concentration |
| Saturated Solution | A solution that contains all the solute it can hold |
| Unsaturated Solution | A solution that contains less than it can hold |
| Suspension | A mixture in which particles are dispersed through a liquid or gas but are large enough that they settle out |
| Colloids | A mixture in which the particles are dispersed though not heavy enough to settle out |
| Element | a pure substance that can not be seperated or broken down into simpler substances by physical or chemical means |
| Pure Substance | a substance in which there can be only one type of particle |
| Characteristic Properties | Properties that do not depend on the amount of material present in a sample of an element |
| Metals | shiny and good conductors of thermal energy and electric current |
| non-Metals | Elements that are dull and are poor conductors |
| Metalloids | Properties of both metals and non-metals |
| Compound | a pure substance composed of two or more elements that are chemically combined |
| Mixture | a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically cobined |
| Solution | a mixture that appears to be a single substance but is composed of two or more substances that are distributed evenly among eachother |
| Solute | a substance that is dissolved |
| Solvent | the substince in which the solute is dissolved |
