Nervous System Vocabulary List

VocabularyDefinition
sedative is a drug that produces a relaxing, calming effect.
hypnotic a drug that induces sleep, that is, it allows the patient to fall aslep and stay asleep.
anorexiants chemicals used for short-term treatment of exogenous obesity.
anticonvulsants A drug used for the management of convulsive disorders.
tonic-clonic seizure include alternate contraction and relaxation of muscles. a loss of consciousness, and abnormal behavior.
Parkinson's Disease This disease is characterized by fine tremors and rigidity of some muscle groups and weakness of others.
anxiety a feeling of apprehension, worry or uneasiness that may or may not be based on reality.
psychotropic drug one that is used to treat disorders of the mind.
depression is characterized by feelings of intense sadness, helplessness, worthlessness, and impaired functioning.
psychotic disorder characterized by extreme personality disorganization and the loss of contact with reality.
hallucination a false perception having no basis in reality.
bipolar disorder a psychiatric disorder characterized by sever mood swings of extreme hyperactivity to depression.
