States of Matter
5th and 6th grade states of matter

| Solidify | remove heat energy from a liquid, making it solid Example: water freezing to ICE |
| Solid | has a definite shape and definite volume |
| Liquid | has volume and takes the shape of its container |
| Gas | spreads to fill the entire container, its volume can change |
| volume | the amount of space an object takes up |
| matter | anything that has mass and takes up space |
| mass | the amount of matter in an object. On Earth, mass is the same as weight. |
| property | how an object feels, looks or acts |
| Magnetism | the attraction of magnets to iron, nickel or steel |
