Measuring Matter

QuestionAnswer
What is matter? Anything that has mass and takes up space. Can be a solid, liquid, or gas.
What is a property? Something that describes matter, such as, color, size, and shape.
What is mass? A measure of the amount of matter in an object.
What is volume? This is the amount of space that matter takes up.
What is length? This is the distance from one point to another. Scientists measure this in meters,or centimeters.
What is a meter? This is a unit of length.
What is a ruler? This is used to measure length. A meter stick or metric tape also measure length.
What is a balance? This is a tool used to measure mass, an example would be a teeter totter or a seesaw.
What is a gram? This is a unit used to measure mass. 1 kilogram is equal to 1000 grams.
What is a graduate? This measures the volume of a liquid.
What is volume? The amount of space that matter takes up.
What units are used to measure volume? Liquid volume is measured in Liters (L), or in Milliliters ( mL).
What is temperature? This is the measure of how hot or cold matter is.
What is a thermometer used for? This is used to measure temperature.
What unit tells the exact temperature of matter? This unit is the degree Celsius.
What happens to matter when it is cooled or heated? Condensation or evaporation occurs.
