Chapter 5 Nerv Sytem
Introduction to the Autonomic Nervous System
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Afferent Nerves | Where the Central Nervous system receives and interpret sensory information. |
| Efferent Nerves | CNS initiates appropriate motor responses via the peripheral efferent nerves |
| Autonomic Nervous System | What the visceral nervers are commonly referred to |
| Homeostasis | Normal balance among the body's internal organs. |
| Parasympathetic | nerves that are active when the body is at rest or trying to resotre body enerty and function. |
| Sympathetic | Nerves that are active when the body is under stress or when it is exerting energy |
| flight or flight reaction | Body response to intense stress |
| Ganglion (PNS) | Collection of snynapes |
| Preganglionic nerve fiber | Formed by neurons that emerge from the spinal cord |
| postganglionic | Formed by neurons that travel from the ganglion to the internal organ |
| neurotransmitter | produces changes to sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions by stimulating internal organs. |
| Acetylcholine(ACH) | nerotransmitter of parasympathetic nerves; simulates the cholinergic receptor |
| Norepinephrine | Neurotransmitter of sympathetic (adrenergic nerves that stimulates the adrenergic receptors |
| Cholinergic(muscarinic) receptor | Receptor located on internal organs and gland that responds to acetycholine |
| adrenergic receptor | receptor located on internal organs that responds to norepinephrine and epinephrine. |
