MOTION
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Acceleration | rate at which velocity changes. |
| Average Speed | total distance traveled divided by the time required to make the trip. |
| Free Fall | downward movement of a body under only the force of gravity; during true free fall, the influence of air resistance is ignored; satellites in space can encounter absolute free fall. |
| Instantaneous Speed | speed at any given instant; her instantaneous speed was 45 miles per hour at one moment and 50 miles per hour a few minutes later. |
| Motion | continuously changing position relative to a reference point. Ex. if you and your friend run together at the same speed, you have no motion relative to each other. |
| Speed | an expression of the rate at which a given distance is covered; measured in distance divided by time, or meters/second. Her speed is 10 meters/second. |
| Velocity | the speed of an object IN A GIVEN DIRECTION. His velocity is 10 meters/second north. An object can change velocity (direction) without changing speed. |
| Reference point | point to which other points, lines, and so forth are referred, usually in terms of distance or direction, or both. |
