DIAZEPAM (VALIUM) CNS Depressant Anxiety, alcohol withdrawl, muscle spasms, preoperative & preproceedure sedation, seizure disorders, Status epilepticus Drowsiness, bradycardia, cardiovascular collapse, physical or psychological dependence Don't give subcutaneously. In IV don't mix other drugs! *Avoid alcohol, driving, op machinery *Monitor CNS depression *Resuscitation eqpmnt nearby *Monitor respirations & vital signs
PHENOBARBITAL (SOLFOTON); CNS nerve depressant; Increases seizure threshold; Suppresses seizure activity & induces sedation Controlling seizures in epilepsy and status epilepticus; Sedation; Sleep; preoperative sedation Respiratory depression; Apnea; Steven Johnson syndrome (fever, rash, necrotizing skin disorder); Angioedema; Bradycardia
TOPIRAMATE (TOPAMAX); Sodium Channel Blocker Control partial seizures; prevent migraine headaches Gen. seizures; paresthesia; visual disturbances; diplopia; leukopenia; tremor; ataxia; confusion; metabolic acidosis Mon. metabolic acidosis; reduce dose for renal disease; encourage fluids; teach on hormonal contraceptives to use an alternative form of birth control; teach client to report any visual disturbances.
