| Anticholinergic | inhibits hypersecretion and G.I. motility |
| Anticoagulant | stops blood clotting (blood thinner) |
| Anticonvulsant | stops brain nerve firing to suppress convulsive seizures |
| Antidepressant | helps maintain proper hormone balance levels to decrease depressive moods |
| Antidiarrheal | relieves and decreases G.I. activity that produces diarrhea |
| Antimetic | relieves nausea and vomiting |
| Antifungal | kills fungus growing in or on the body |
| Antihistamine | stops the effect of histamine release that causes sneezing, watery eyes, and congestion |
| Anti-hypertensive | work to lower blood pressure |
| Anti-inflammatory | reduce and relieve inflammation |
| Antineoplastic | used to kill cancer cells |
| Antipyretic | relieves and lowers a high fever |
| Antispasmodic | relieves stomach muscle spasms |

| Diuretic | increases the water output in the kidneys; reduces water retention in the body |
| Expectorant | removes mucous from the upper respiratory system |
| Histamine (H2) Blocker | reduce acid secretion by blocking histamine from reaching the H2 receptor |
| Hypnotic | relaxes the central nervous system to produce sleep |
| Muscle Relaxant | treats involuntary, painful contraction of muscles by slowing the passage of nerve signals that cause pain |
| Narcotic | potentially highly abused as a pain reliever, causing dependency |
| Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory angents | substances that inhibit the production of the enzymes necessary for the synthesis of prostaglandins, reducing pain and inflammation |
| Proton Pump Inhibitors | reduce gastric acid build-up by blocking the release of protons by proton pumps |

| Stimulant | class of medications that are intended to increase alertness and physical activity |
