Ipratropium Bromide.

Ipratropium Bromide(atrovent)

Classification Anticholinergic (Parasympatholytic), Bronchodilator
Mechanism of action Inhibits interaction of acetylcholine at receptor sites on bronchial smooth muscle, thereby allowing bronchodilation
Indications 1. bronchospasms due to COPD, allergic reaction and asthma refractory to other Beta2 agonists
Contraindications: 1. Hypersensitivity to atropine, soybean or peanut products
Side Effects: Cardiovascular: palpitations Other: dry mouth
Routes of Administration: HHN
Onset and Duration of Actions: Onset in 15 minutes with peak effect at 1-2 hours, and may last 3-4 hours
Dosages: Adult: 0.5 mg mixed with 2.5 mg Albuterol via HHN Pediatric: 0.5 mg mixed with 5.0 mg Albuterol via HHN and then administer only half of the volume
