Indications for IVU Evaluate abd masses & renal cysts & tumors, Urolithiasis,Pyelonephritis, Hydronephrosis, Evaluate effects of trauma, Pre-op eval of kidneys, Renal hypertension
IVU demonstrates... Both function and structure of urinary system
Major contraindication, cannot use IVU When kidneys not able to filter waste (renal failure), excrete urine (anuria), or sickle cell disease
Contraindications that require a nonionic contrast or another modality Elderly,Asthma,Prev contrast reaction, Circulatory or cardio disease, Elevated creatinine (norm .6-1.5 mg/100ml) or BUN (norm 8-25 mr/100ml) level, Sickle cell disease, diabetes Mellitus, Multiple Myeloma
Range of contrast administered 30-100 ml
Most common radiographs for IVU AP KUB at time intervals from 3 to 20 mins
Some doctors obtain a nephrogram by doing what? Using a bolus injection of contrast followed by a 30-second image (nephrogram)
