E & D 2 bed mob

E & D 2 bed mobility guidlines

QuestionAnswer
A patient that is dependent must be repositioned in bed at least every two hours
Skin should be inspected for redness or breakdown with each position change
A dependent patient must be lifted when changing positions in order to avoid shearing across the bed
Use pillows, towels or blankets when positioning a patient in order to support and maintain a particular position
A patient should always be encouraged to participate in all mobility and positioning
Practice moving segmentally from one side of the bed to the other
Utilize the “bridging” position of hip flexion and knee flexion with feet flat on the surface to assist with movement and rolling
Move from a supine to sitting position by rolling into sidelying and placing the feet over the edge; assist as needed to obtain a sitting position
All components of bed mobility are complete only when the patient ends in a comfortable and safe position
