| Anxiety | a generalized apprehension or a vague feeling that one is in danger; a reaction to a vague or imagined danger |
| Phobia | an intense & irrational fear of a particular object or situation; can be specific or social |
| panic disorder | an anxiety disorder that manifests itself in the form of panic attacks |
| Panic | is a feeling of sudden, helpless terror. |
| obsession | an uncontrollable pattern of thoughts |
| compulsion | repeatedly performing irrational actions. |
| Post traumatic stress disorder | a person who has experienced a traumatic event feels severe & long |
| somatoform disorder | Collection of disorders in which physical symptoms for which there is no apparent physical cause present themselves. This includes conversion disorders and hypochondriasis. |
| conversion disorders | the conversion of emotional difficulties into the loss of a specific physiological function. |
| hypochondriasis | when a person who is in good health becomes preoccupied with imaginary ailments. |
| dissociative disorder | Collection of disorders in which a person experiences alterations in memory, identity, or consciousness |
| dissociative amnesia | Memory loss that has no biological explanation |
| dissociative fugue | a person suddenly & unexpectedly travels away from home or work & is unable to recall the past |
| dissociative identity disorder | someone seems to have two or more distinct identities, each with its own way of thinking & behaving |
| Schizophrenia | involves confused & disordered thoughts & perceptions. |
| Delusions | a false belief that a person maintains in the face of contrary evidence |
| Hallucinations | perceptions that have no direct external cause |
| Major Depressive Disorder | spend at least two weeks feeling depressed, sad, anxious, fatigued, & agitated, experiencing a reduced ability to function & interact with others. |
| Bipolar Disorder | individuals are excessively & inappropriately happy or unhappy. |
| manic phase | experiences elation, extreme confusion, distractibility, & racing thoughts. |
| depressive phase | overcome by feelings of failure, sinfulness, worthlessness, & despair. |
| Seasonal Affective Disorder | develop a deep depression in the midst of winter |
