elecricity vocablary

| circuit | a complete or partial path throught which an electrical current may flow |
| switch | a device in an electrical circuit that opens and closes the circuit |
| energy | the ability to do work; various forms exists such as heat, light, electrical, and chemical |
| negative terminal | the bottom of a battery that must be connected in a closed circuit (-) |
| terminal | points which must be touched in order to make a complete circuit |
| positive terminal | the top of a battery that must be connected in a closed circuit (+) |
| bulb | a system which transforms electrical energy into light energy |
| polarity | in batteries, the condition of having + and - ends aligned correctly in a circuit |
| filament | a thin wire inside the glass bulb of a light bulb; the part that lights |
| closed circuit | a complete circuit, where electricity flows from one battery terminal throught the circuit and back to the other battery terminal |
| insulator | a device to prevent the passage of electricity; often called a nonconductor |
| open circuit | a circuit through which electricity does not flow because one part is not connected |
| conduct | to move from one place to another |
| series circuit | a circuit that has only one path through which electricity can flow |
| parallel circuit | a circuit that has 2 or more paths through which electricity can flow |
| conductor | a material through which electrons move easily |
