GAMS Nonfiction

Nonfiction an "umbrella genre"; books and articles that are informational but can be written in narrative or persuasive form; this genre also covers fairy tales, poetry, tall tales, mythology, and folktales
Dewey Number a number assigned to a library book based on its subject matter so that all books about the same subject are shelved in the same area
DDSC a System of Classification for books created by Melville Dewey
decimal the "dot" in a number that separates the whole number from the tenths, hundredths, etc.
Spine label the "address" of the book, includes prefix and call numbers and/or letters
Call number the "address" of a nonfiction book
Call letters most often the first letters of the author's last name
