Balance an instrument used for determing the relative weight of substances
Meniscus The curved upper surface of a column of liquid in a container. measurement should be done at the lowest part
Suspension a solution in which the powder does not dissolve into the base and which must be shaken before use

Geometric Dilution technique used in mixing two ingredients of unequal quantities, where one begins with the smallest quantity and adds an equal quantity of the ingredient having the larger amount; process continues until all of the ingredients are used
Levigation the process of forming a paste by the addition of a non-solvent to a solid material
Syrup a sugar based liquid
Elixir a base solution that is a mixture of alcohol and water
Lotion a liquid usually aqueous medical preparation containg one or more insoluble substances and applied externally for skin disorders
Aqueous Solution a solution in which the solvent is water
Ointment a hydrophobic product such as petroleum jelly
