| Balance | an instrument used for determing the relative weight of substances |
| Meniscus | The curved upper surface of a column of liquid in a container. measurement should be done at the lowest part |
| Suspension | a solution in which the powder does not dissolve into the base and which must be shaken before use |
| Compounding | the preparation, mixing, assembling, packing, and/or labeling of a drug or device according to the practioners instructions for the patients needs |
| Geometric Dilution | technique used in mixing two ingredients of unequal quantities, where one begins with the smallest quantity and adds an equal quantity of the ingredient having the larger amount; process continues until all of the ingredients are used |
| Levigation | the process of forming a paste by the addition of a non-solvent to a solid material |

| Elixir | a base solution that is a mixture of alcohol and water |
