PT Motion terms

| When a patient can move a joint without any help at all, that movement is known as | active range of motion (AROM) |
| When a patient can move a joint with some help (usually due to weakness), that amount of motion is known as | active assistive range of motion (AAROM) |
| When a patient is unable to move a joint at all without help that is known as | passive range of motion (PROM) (coma patients) |
| Therapist applies some pressure to a limb, resisting the patients movement, this is known as | resistive range of motion (RROM) (used to work muscles to regain strength) |
| When a joint has lost even normal passive range of motion this is known as | contracture (limits patient function, prevents normal use) |
| ADL is also known as | activities of daily living (eating, personal hygiene, food prep., etc) |
