| buoyancy | a pushing up on an object by a fluid. |
| calibrate | to check, adjust, or measure exactly. |
| density | the amount of mass in a given amount of volume of a substance. |
| design | a sketch or model that shows how something is or works. |
| displacement | the process by which an object pushes aside the liquid into which it has been placed. |
| float | to rest on or at the surface of, or be suspended in, a liquid. |
| fluid | a substance that flows or takes the shape of its container; both liquids and gases are fluids. |
| gravity | the attraction of the earth or other bodies for any object at or near their surface; the force of gravity depends on the masses of the objects and how far they are apart. |
| mass | the amount of matter that an object contains. |
| sink | to move downward; go to the bottom of. |
| submerge | to put under the fluid. |
| volume | the amount of space that a substance takes up. |
| weight | the measurement of how heavy something is. |
