| Neurons | nerve cell, the basic building block of the nervous system |

| Refractory Period | delay after flushing while tank is refilling |
| Resting Potential | toilet tank is full and ready to be flushed again |

| Synapse | tiny, fluid-filled gap b/t the axon terminal of one neuron and the dendrite of another |
