| Canyon | Deep valley with very steep sides |
| Cape | Pointed piece of land that sticks out into a sea, ocean, lake or river |
| Cove | Small, horseshoe-shaped body of water along the coast: the water is surrounded by land formed with soft rock |
| Cave | Large hole in the ground or in the side of a hill or mountain |
| Cliff | Steep face of rock and soil |

| Lagoon | Shallow body of water that is located alongside a coast |
| Lake | Large body of water suroounded by land on all sides |
| Latitude | Angular distance North or South from equator to particular location |
| Longitude | Angular distance East or West from the North-South line that passes through Greenwich, Eng to a particular location |
| Marsh | Type of freshwater, brackish water or salwater wetland that is found along rivers, ponds, lakes and coasts. Plants grow up out of the water |
| Mesa | Land formation iwth a flat area on top and steep walls - usually occurring in dry areas |
| Mountain | Very tall, high natural place on Earth; higher than a hill |
| Ocean | Large body of salt water that surrounds the continents |
| Peninsula | Body of land that is surrounded by water on three sides |
| River | Large, flowing body of water that usually empties into a sea or ocean |
| Plateau | Large, flat area of land that is higher than the surrounding land |
| Plain | Flat lands that have only small changes in elevation |
| Pond | Small body of water surrounded by land |
| Prairie | Wide, relatively flat area of land that has grasses and only a few trees |
| Sea | Large body of salt water that is often connected to an ocean, by be partially or completely surrounded by land |
| Sound | Wide inlet of the sea or ocean that is parallel to the coastline; it often separates a coastline from a nearby island |
| Strait | Narrow body of water that connects two larger bodies of water |
| Swamp | Type of freshwater wetland that has spongy, muddly land and a lot of water; many trees and shurbs grow up here |
