| Compounds: | Substance formed from two or more elements |
| Octet Rule: | Bonds formed in order to have a full outer shell. |
| Subscript: | Number of atoms in a compound. |
| Superscript: | Equal to the oxidation number. |
| Chemical Bond: | Force that holds atoms tgether in a compound. |
| Ions: | Charged particle. Has more or less electrons than protons. |
| Polyatomic Ion: | + or - charged, covalently bonded group of atoms. |
| Ionic Bond: | Force of attractio between the opposite charges of the ions in an ionic compound. |
| Ionic Compound Properties: | High melting point/Dissolved in water/Conducts electricity. |
| Covalent Bond: | Attraction formed between atoms when they share electrons. |
| Properties of Covalent Molecules: | Low melting point/Insoluble in water/Non-conductor |
| Oxidation Number | How many electrons an atom has gained, lost, or shared. |
| Chemical Reaction: | When one or more substances are converted into different substances. |
| Reactants/Products: | Left side of a non-balanced equation/Right side of a non-balanced equation. EX: AB ---> CD |
