Methergine Postpartum Period; not used to induce labor. prevents bleeding and hemorrhage.
Tocolytics are used to... Prevent uterine contractions; relax the uterus.
Oxytocin; Pitocin Antepartum; Initiate or improve contractions. Postpartum; prevents bleeding or hemorrhage.
Brethine: Terbutaline Makes it easier to breathe..
What is the Ca antagonist? Magnesium- sulfate
Uterine Atony Flabby; use pit. Bad
Uterine Tetany Sustained muscular contractions; Bad
Beta-Blocker OLOL suffix. Slow the <3 rate. Cardio selective; only block beta receptors. NON-Cardio selective; that + smooth muscle (bronchial-> Don't use with COPD, Asthma patients.
Renin- Angiotension- Raises B/P
What are the target organs? Heart, Brain, Kidneys.
Atherosclerosis- only in arteries When platelets run into each other, form blood clots in the arteries. Can occur in coronary, cerebral and peripheal arteries. High correlation they may occur in all three. CHECK ALT and AST and Liver Enzymes.
Lasix- Diuretics Hypocalcemia; Drop K the quickest. <3 rate and rhythm.
When taking a beta blocker what should you teach the patient for when they go home? To keep an eye on their pulse. An Adverse Reaction is bradycardia. Cardiac output decreases.
For constipation what do you do? Increase fluids and fiber in your diet.
Myocardial Ischemia---> Reduced blood supply. Lowers 02.
M.I. Heart Attack
Heparin-Units SubQ, IV. Antidote is protamine. Anticouaglant.
Warfarin; Antidote is Vitamin K. Antocouglant.
Nitroglycerin; Headache-very common. Will subside.
Angina; take a seat, Call 911. 3-15 minutes, 5 minutes apart. Does not relieve the pain of an MI. they will get IV morphine. Nitrate AND morphine will help the myocardium. CCU.
Vitamin K; Green leafy vegetables. Spinach, brocili, salad.
If you are diagnosed with Coronary disease what should you do, and in what order? Call 911 first, then do the sublingual method ever 5 minutes until a total of 15 minutes.
