Operant Conditioning: Your dog wanders around the neighborhood looking for food and the neighbor throws a bone outside her door. She reaptedly gives the dog food and the dog keeps going to her door. learning in which a certain action is reinforced or punished, resulting in corresponding increase or decrease in occurrence
Reinforcement: To teach a dog how to sit down you have to give it a treat each time it sits down when you tell it to. stimulus or event that follows a response and increase the likelihood that the response will be repeated
Primary Reinforcer: The taught the chimps to insert poker chips into the food machine to satisfy their hunger. stimulus that is naturally rewarding, such as food or water
Secondary Reinforcer: Money is a second reinforcement because you associate with buying your needs such as food and clothes. stimulus such as money that becomes reinforcing through it's link with primary reinforcer
Fixed-ratio schedule: Dentist work a fixed-ration schedule because they get paid 75 dollars per cavity repair. schedule of reinforcement in which a specific number of correct responses is required befire reinforcement can be obtained
Variable-ratio schedule: Sales persons work on variable-ratio because they don't know how many doorbells they have to ring until they get a break. schedule of reinforcement in which an unpredictable number of responses are required before reinforcement can be obtained
Fixed-interval schedule: A teacher gives quizzes. schedule of reinforcement in which a specific amount of time must elapse before a response will elicit reinforcement
Variable-interval schedule: You miss a call from your parents and you constintly call them until they pick up the phone. schedule of reinforcement forcement in which changing amounts of time must elapse before a response will obtain reinforcement
Shaping: The experimenter gives a rat a treat when doing something good. Does a similar response such as raising a flag. technique in which the desired behavior is "molded" by first rewarding any act similar to that behavior and then requiring closer approximations to the desired behavior before giving the reward
Response chain: When you swim their are three major chains which are arm stroking, breathing, and leg-kicking chain. learned reactions that follow one another in sequence, each reaction producing the signal for the next
Aversive control: Negative reinforcer or as punishers can affect a person behavior process of influencing behavior by means of unpleasant stimuli
Negative reinforcement: when you have a rock in your shoe you are having pain when you walk then whe you take the rock out then the pain goes away increasing the strength of a given response by removing or preventing a painful stimulus when the response occurs
Escape conditioning: when a child doesn't like a certain food they would cry about it so the parent takes the food. It doesn't help because later on the child will cry again when he or she doesn't like the food. training of an organism to remove or terminate an unpleasant stimulus
Avoidence conditioning The child avoided eat liver because he or she was crying and whining training of an organism to withdraw from an unpleasant stimulus before it starts
