QuestionAnswer
WAVE A disturbance that transfers energy from place to place.
MEDIUM The material through which a wave travels. (gases, liquids and solids)
MECHANICAL WAVES Require a medium to travel through.
Creation of waves When an energy source causes a medium to vibrate.
TRANSVERSE WAVES Waves that move a medium at right angles... up and down or side to side. (rope tied to door handle)
LONGITUDINAL WAVES Waves that move a medium parallel to the direction the waves are traveling. (coils on a spring)
SURFACE WAVES A combination of Transverse and Longitudinal waves. They occur at the surface of two mediums like land and air.
