MI Treatment

Treatment Oxygen Bed rest for a short period of time Stool softeners Docusate (Colace)‏ Nitroglycerin; Coronary artery dilatation.
ACE Inhibitors Start after thrombolytics are given and blood pressure stabilized. Decrease in ventricular remodeling. Start with a very low dose and work up. Decrease in mortality.
Magnesium Possible decrease in myocardial reperfusion injury following thrombolysis.
Beta-blocker Should be given within twelve hours of symptom onset; Reduces mortality by 40%. Decreased cardiac workload.
Antithrombotics Aspirin;160-325mg chewed as soon as possible after onset of symptoms, Decreases mortality. Clopidigrel used in combination with aspirin in patients having angioplasty / stenting. Heparin, Used in combination with thrombolytics.
