Question | Answer |

Mechanism | Block binding of angiotensin II to receptors. Prevent vasoconstriction and aldosterone release. AT1 receptor mediates above AT2 may have anti – proliferative and vasodilatory effects. No effect on bradykinin pathway. |
Kinetics | High first pass effect. Highly protein bound. Renal and hepatic elimination. Telmisartan almost exclusively hepatic. |
Side effects | Same as ACE inhibitors but without the cough. |
Drug Interactions | Telmisartan with other hepatically cleared drugs. Increased digoxin and warfarin levels. Potassium-sparing diuretics and potassium supplements. |
Names | Losartan (Cozaar). Candesartan (Atacand). Eprosartan (Teveten). Irbesartan (Avapro). Telmisartan (Micardis). Valsartan (Diovan). Eprosartan (Teveten). Olmesartan (Benicar). Also in combination with thiazides and other antihypertensives. |
