Symptoms of MS Sensory Impairments,skin care: Lhermitte's Sing:Sensation like electric shock running down spine and into extremities. Parasthesias: pins an needles sensation. Dysesthesias: abnormal burning/aching Trigeminal Neuralgia:short attacks of facial pain.
SYMPTOMS MS Visual: Nygstagmus:involuntary movement of the eye Scotoma: dark spot in the center of visual field
Motor impairments Upper motor neuron syndrome Spasticity, increased DTR,+babisnki. motor weakness, fatigue.
Cerebellum disturbances Ataxia, intention tremor,vertigo. Communication disturbances: Dysarthria, dysphagia
Treatment Ther. ex. supine,sitting,prone,stand: stretch tight muscles, strengthen weak muscles,coordination ex, aquatic ex., breathing. Transfers: rolling to both sides, supine to sit. Gait: with or without AD in different surfaces.
Other Issues that affect MS pts. Heat: Uthoff syndrome stress, hyperventilation, trauma,Don't exercise to point of fatigue.
Modification of Activities exercise in the AM, keep skin clear and dry,memory aids,timing devices, Frenkel's exercises.
Adjunts to Treatment PNF, NDT, hydrotherapy,Cryotheraphy, FES, Frenkel's exercises,US, pressure stockings.
