physics week 1 motion
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Position | An objects place or location |
| Motion | Any movement or change in an object’s position. Motion can be described using words such as distance, time, speed, direction, velocity, and acceleration |
| Frame of reference | The things around you that you can sense and use to observe motion. |
| Speed | The measure of the distance an object moves in a given amount of time. Calculate speed by dividing the distance by the time Speed=Distance÷Time |
| Velocity | An object’s speed in a particular direction |
| Acceleration | Any change in velocity. This can be a change in the speed of an object or the direction an object is traveling |
| Uniform Motion | Equal distances traveled in equal times, such as on conveyor belts, treadmills, and escalators. Objects are traveling at constant speed |
| Variable Motion | Different distances travels in equal times, such as a car accelerating or object falling. Objects speed is changing |
| Periodic Motion | A motion that repeats itself with the object continually returning to its starting position, such as a child on a swing or a pogo stick, or a pendulum. This must be a back and forth or up down motion |
